Walter Esser (1960) earned First-Team All-Conference honors as a member of The Rock men’s soccer program. He played three seasons of soccer competition, and served as the co-captain in his senior season. Esser was selected to play in the North/South Soccer Game in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Esser was also a four-year track and field athlete. He was selected as the co-captain for his senior season. Esser also set a state record in the pole vault competition as a track and field student-athlete.
Esser also participated in gymnastics all four years at The Rock.
Esser served as the Student Government Association president.
Following graduation, Esser was commissioned a 2
nd lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was awarded a Bronze Star, six Air Medals, a Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and numerous campaign ribbons during the Vietnam War.
Esser then became president of Walter M. Esser and Associates Inc., a human resources consulting group located in Cary, N.C.
