Hall of Fame
Mark Balbach left an indelible mark in Rock men's basketball history during his three-year playing career (1970-73).
He earned second-team Academic All-America and honorable mention NAIA All-America honors in 1973 after leading SRU, as the team's top scorer and captain, to a fourth-place finish in the national tournament. He also earned first-team All-Pennsylvania Conference and Pittsburgh Press all-district and second-team NAIA all-national-tournament and District 18 honors in his senior season.
Balbach received a bachelor's degree from SRU in 1969 and added a master's degree four years later.
Since graduation, Balbach has served 25 seasons as a basketball coach at Southmoreland and Blackhawk high schools and 30 years as a health and physical education instructor. He is also currently a vital part of the successful Drill 4 Skill basketball camp organization.
A native of Pittsburgh and graduate of Edgewood High School Balbach currently resides in Beaver Falls.
