Ron Hunt, a former two-sport student-athlete and coach at Slippery Rock University, will be included in a group of seven individuals honored Sept. 29 by induction into the SRU Athletic Hall of Fame.
Hunt was a three-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division performer for The Rock football team and a PSAC champion and national qualifier in the long jump for the track and field team.

A native of New Castle and graduate of New Castle High School, Hunt was also a two-time all-district selection and served as a defensive captain for The Rock's 1972 PSAC championship football team. He also won the PSAC long jump championship and set a school record with a leap of 23 feet, 6 inches in 1972.

Following receipt of his bachelor's degree in 1973, Hunt became SRU's head junior varsity and assistant varsity football coach, a role he held until 1978. His first JV team recorded a perfect 6-0 record.

Hunt also served as head JV and assistant varsity basketball coach at The Rock in 1979 and was a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) official from 1975-78.

In addition to his coaching duties, Hunt served as SRU's Assistant Director of Admissions from 1973-78, instructed health and physical education classes and was a member of several faculty and staff committees.

In 1981, Hunt received a two-year fellowship at Penn State University's Smeal School of Business and ultimately earned an MBA in marketing and finance. That launched a career in banking and finance during which Hunt has been employed by Equibank, Chrysler Capital Corporation and First Niagara Bank and its predecessor banks.

A resident of Pittsburgh, Hunt remains actively involved in several professional, civic, community and church-related organizations.
