Dr. Charles W. Armstrong (1969) lettered four seasons as a pole vaulter on The Rock's indoor and outdoor track teams. He won the NCAA Division II East Region championship and set a meet record in his senior season. He also captured the State College Championship in both his sophomore and senior seasons, placed second at the state meet as a junior and was fourth as a freshman. He was The Rock's team captain as a senior.
Upon completion of his undergraduate career, Armstrong served as a high school and college teacher and coach.
In addition to his undergraduate degree from Slippery Rock, Armstrong received both a master's and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.
