Paul Uram (1949) was a standout for both the football and track and field team while at The Rock. He was chosen to the all-time Slippery Rock team in 1965 as a quarterback.
 
Uram took to coaching after graduating from Slippery Rock. He began his coaching career at Millvale High School as the football, gymnastics, and track and field coach. His gymnastics teams won 120 straight dual meets during his tenure. Uram later coached gymnastics at his alma mater, Butler Senior High School, where his teams won 108 straight dual meets and three state championships.
Uram later served as the flexibility and kicking coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1973 through 1981, during which the Steelers won four Super Bowls. He also worked with the Baltimore Colts, LA Lakers, Detroit Red Wings, and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
 
Uram is also a member of the U.S. Gymnastics Hall of Fame, Butler County Sports Hall of Fame, and the Western Pennsylvania Hall of Fame.
