George Crunkleton (class of 1979) led SRU to the NCAA Division III national track and field championship in 1979, which still stands as the only NCAA team title in school history. He set three SRU sprint records, was the PSAC MVP and won individual event titles in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and as a member of the 4x100-meter relay at the 1979 National Championships. His 200-meter record of 21.05 seconds stood as the fastest in SRU history for 43 years before it was broken in 2023. Crunkleton competed in the 1983 National Sports Festival and the1984 U.S. Olympic Trials.
