Three-time golf All-American John Zack was one of six individuals included in the Slippery Rock University Athletic Hall of Fame’s 27th induction class in September 2010.

A four-year letterman and player with the lowest scoring average each season, Zack earned College Division All-America honors in 1975, 1977 and 1978. He culminated his collegiate career with a fourth-place national finish and first-team All-America honor in his senior season. He also won the Penn State Invitational with a course-record 216 score that season (1978).

Aside from his achievements as a member of The Rock, Zack earned an invitation to play in the 1978 Western Amateur (top 72 amateurs in the nation) and was club champion at both the Pleasant Valley Golf Course and Windber Country Club in 1977 and 1978. He played on the professional mini tour in Florida from 1979-82 and was the Tri-State PGA Open runner-up in 1980.

Zack has also earned berths in the prestigious Sunnehanna Tournament of Champions on three occasions, including both the 2008 and 2009 events. He won the Sunnehanna Country Club championship in both 2007 and 2008.

His collegiate and post-collegiate accomplishment came on the heels of Zack winning the 1973 Greater Johnstown junior championship and 1974 District 6 high school title.

In addition to be an excellent high school golfer, Zack set the single-game and single-season assists records and was the second leading scorer on his Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center team.

Shortly after receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from Slippery Rock as a business economics major, Zack began a successful career as a golf pro and corporate sales representative, primarily within the golf industry.

He was the golf pro at Somerset Country Club from 1979-81, Seven Springs Resort in 1982, Summit Country Club in Cresson from 1983-86 and Ebensburg Country Club from 1987-90. He then worked as a golf representative for Reebok, Cleveland Classic, Sun Mountain Sports and Founders Club from 1991-2000 before accepting his current position as general manager of Consolidated Steel Company in 2001.

A 1974 graduate of Greater Johnstown Area Vocational-Technical School, Zack and his wife, Cynthia, reside in Johnstown.
