Hall of Fame
N. Kerr Thompson (1908) created the Slippery Rock sports legend as one of the school's original football, basketball and baseball coaches. He guided The Rock football team from 1920-45 and produced a dozen divisional championship and eight state championship teams. His overall record of 126-58-1, still stands as the best compiled by an SRU football coach. Four of The Rock's five unbeaten football teams were coached by Thompson, including the undefeated, untied team of 1939 regarded by many as the school's finest. Thompson also compiled a 271-135 record in 25 seasons as basketball coach and coached baseball from 1948-55. The old football field adjacent to Morrow Field House and the current football stadium are named in his honor, as is the athletic scholarship fund.
