-
To encourage academic and athletics excellence at Slippery Rock University.

Student Athlete Academic Orientation
An orientation session will take place at the beginning of the school year for the purpose of educating all first-year student athletes on the various support programs available.
College Skills Workshops
Each first-year student athlete will be required to attend a maximum of two College Skills Workshops during the fall semester. The Workshops are designed to improve learning skills and include such topics as time management, note-taking, memory, test-preparation, final exams, etc.
Monitoring Academic Progress
The academic progress of the student athletes will be monitored by the following methods:
Grade Reports
Grade Reports will be distributed during the forth week of each semester to report the status of the student athlete's grades, attendance, class assignments, and class preparation, in addition to any comments cited by the professors.
Student Attendance Performance and Adjustment (SAPA) Reports
The Student Attendance Performance and Adjustment (SAPA) Reports are designed to convey whether a student has an attendance, performance, or adjustment problem in any of his/her classes. The SAPA reports are distributed to the athletic coaches prior to midterm examinations for all freshman student athletes to allow ample time to reevaluate their current academic situation and work to make changes necessary to ensure academic success. The SAPA reports identify problems in the following areas:
~ Not regularly attending classes
~ Not completing assignments on time
~ Not participating in class activities/discussion
~ Not earning a grade of "C" of better
~ Not demonstrating appropriate classroom behavior
Mid-Term Grade Reports
Mid-term grade reports are distributed to the athletic coaches at mid-semester for all student athletes. These updates allow the student athletes to reevaluate their current academic situation and work to make changes prior to the end of the semester.
Final Grade Reports
Final grade reports are distributed to the athletic coaches at the conclusion of each semester for all student athletes.
Study Table Program
All first-year student athletes (freshman and 1st year transfers) and any upperclassmen who have not obtained a 2.3 cumulative grade-point average must attend Study Table each week throughout the semester. All first-year student athletes who obtain a 3.5 gpa in their first semester will be exempt from attending Study Table.

A student athlete's cumulative grade-point average is the indicator for determining the required number of hours. This is a sliding scale. The required number of hours per week, based on QPA's, are as follows:

2.00 - 2.30 = 4 hours
1st-year student athletes = 4 hours
