Hall of Fame
The 1989-90 squad was coached by Bob Barlett and featured two first-team All-Americans, Myron Brown and Bill Johnson. Behind their leadership, the Green and White recorded a school-record 23-6 overall win-loss mark, won a best-ever 16 straight games and attained a No. 2 national ranking, the highest ever achieved by a Rock men's basketball team.
Brown, the PSAC's all-time leading scorer with 2,619 points, is the only player in school history to be named as a National Player of the Year and be selected in a National Basketball Association draft. He was the second-round pick (34th overall) of the Minnesota Timberwolves in 1991.
Brown and Johnson, the No. 11 scorer (1,200 points) and No. 13 rebounder (700) in Rock history, were two of four members of the 1989-90 team who finished their careers with 1,000 or more career points. Kevin Jones ranks fourth in scoring with 1,421 points, while C. Russell is 10th with 1,137 points.
All four of those players earned All-PSAC-West honors during their careers. Brown (NBA and Italy), Johnson (Venezuela and Mexico) and Russell (World Basketball League) each went on to play professionally.
The 1989-90 Rock squad set itself apart from other Green and White squads by recording wins over four NCAA Division I teams (Central Florida, Cleveland State, Navy and Youngstown State) and scored 100 or more points in 10 separate games.
Members of the 1989-90 team went on to have successful careers. The squad included a one student-athlete who is now a bank vice president, four players who became high school or college basketball coaches and teachers, an NCAA Division I basketball official, two players who have their own businesses and one golf pro.
