Doug Zimmerman (1972) was a standout in both basketball and baseball while at The Rock.
 
Zimmerman recorded averages of 16.9 points per game, .476% shooting from the field, and .776% shooting from the line during his junior and senior seasons. As a senior, he garnered NAIA All-America honors after leading The Rock basketball team to the PSAC Western Division championship.
 
As a senior on the baseball team, Zimmerman batted .275 with an on-base percentage of .383 while also recording 8 RBI and 16 runs in 24 games. He was drafter by the Pittsburgh Pirates but suffered a career-ending injury after one season.
 
Zimmerman coached basketball at SRU for four years, leading The Rock to its first-ever NCAA playoff appearance.
Zimmerman then became head coach of the men’s basketball team at Penn-State Behrend, where he stayed for seven years. While there, he led Behrend to their first appearance in the ECAC playoffs.
 

Zimmerman then moved on to coach the women’s basketball team and men’s tennis team at Gannon University. Zimmerman then took a position as the director of student living at Gannon, a position he remained in until 2012 when he announced his retirement.
