Hall of Fame
Steve Roberts, a native of Saegertown, Pennsylvania, is one of the winningest wrestlers in Slippery Rock history and also devoted many years of service to the university as a coach and educator. He ranks seventh all-time at SRU in career victories with a 105-28-1 overall record and is one of just nine men to record 100 or more individual wins during their careers. Roberts' highest honors came in both 1979 and 1980 when he won the NCAA Division I East Regional titles at 142 pounds, earning a berth in the National Championships each year. He also claimed a PSAC title and was named the Robert G. Lutz Award winner during his tenure as a wrestler. Following his graduation from Slippery Rock in 1983, Roberts spent a total of 16 years as a member of the coaching staff at The Rock, first serving as a graduate assistant for one year, then as an assistant coach for seven years and then as the head coach for eight years, where he coached Derek Delporto to an NCAA Division I All-America finish at nationals.
