Hall of Fame
Former Rock baseball All-America shortstop Craig White was one of six individuals included in the Slippery Rock University Athletic Hall of Fame’s 27th induction class in September 2010
White earned a first-team All-America honor from the American Baseball Coaches Association in 1989 after he led The Rock to a first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II national tournament.
He was subsequently selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 23rd round of the 1989 Major League Baseball draft. Six years later, in 1995, White signed as a replacement player with the Boston Red Sox during a strike by MLB players.
White, who played three seasons at SRU before signing with the Dodgers, batted .440 in his final collegiate season and set school records for hits (81), runs (61), RBIs (80), home runs (12), total runs (141), total bases (132) and slugging percentage (.766).
The Converse/ABCA regional Player of the Year in 1989 and two-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference performer, White was one of only three Division II players selected to compete for a spot on the 1990 USA National Baseball Team. He had to pass on that opportunity when he signed a professional contract.
In 2004, White was inducted into the Union Printers International Baseball League Hall of Fame.
White, a 1986 graduate of Bethel Park High School and 1992 SRU graduate, currently resides with his wife, Carrie, in West Alexander, Pa., where he is an assistant manager for G&G Fitness. He also teaches baseball in the South Hills section of Pittsburgh.
