Lynn Kachmarik (1979) was a six-time collegiate All-America selection during her years as a swimmer and water polo player at SRU. After SRU, she went on to compete as a member of the United States Women’s National Water Polo team from 1976-86, serving as captain for six of those years. During that time, she competed in three World Championships and seven FINA World Cup tournaments. Kachmarik was also selected to the All-World team in 1978.

After her playing career, Kachmarik became the assistant coach of the U.S. national team from 1989-92. That team went on to finish third at the 1992 World Championships in Ecuador.

Kachmarik also made history after being hired as the Bucknell University men’s water polo head coach, becoming the first woman as head coach of an NCAA Division I water polo program. After her first year on the job, she was named Eastern Water Polo League Coach of the Year.
