Hall of Fame
Robert Byler (1965) was a two-sport athlete at The Rock.
Byler lettered four seasons in basketball and finished his collegiate career as The Rock's No. 2 all-time men's basketball scorer with 1,334 points. He currently ranks sixth on SRU's all-time scoring list.
Byler was named to third-team Little All-America honors in both his junior and senior seasons and also garnered NAIA all-district and All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference honors.
He scored 506 points in 23 games - an average of 22 points per game - as a junior. At that time, his total was the second highest in school history.
Byler, who served as The Rock's co-captain in his sophomore season, led Slippery Rock to its first PSAC basketball championship in 1962-63.
Byler, who passed away in December of 2000 at the age of 58, also lettered four seasons at Slippery Rock as a golfer. He placed 28th in the NAIA national tournament as a junior and was the state champion in both his sophomore and junior seasons.
Following his graduation from Slippery Rock, Byler was a teacher/coach and salesman.
Byler was inducted into the Lawrence County Historical Society Hall of Fame in 1990.
