Rock set for Ashland Invitational Saturday

Slippery Rock will send 88 track & field athletes to Ashland University in Ohio Saturday to compete in the Ashland Invitational.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University indoor track & field teams will send 88 athletes to Ashland University in Ohio Saturday to compete in the Ashland Invitational.

SRU MEN'S NOTES
The Rock will send 45 men to compete Saturday at Ashland, marking its largest contingent to compete at one meet so far this season.
 
Slippery Rock is coming off a solid showing last week at Youngstown State in the team's first action after a month off for the semester break and holidays. The Rock won three events last Friday at YSU with Connor Brown winning the shot put, Zach Gose winning the weight throw and the 4x400-meter relay team of Matthew Crow, Kadin Johnson, Trey Huha and Kyle Rauchut picking up a win.
 
SRU enters this weekend with 11 top-50 marks in Division II so far this winter, headlined by shot put thrower Seaton Wozniak and his SRU record of 17.96 meters, which ranks No. 7 in the country. Teammates Connor Brown (17th, 17.03m) and Tyler Ondrusek (39thm 16.08m) both rank inside the top 40 nationally as well.
 
The Rock also have two men in the top 20 nationally in the pole vault, where Drew Layton sits 13th with a mark of 5.05 meters and Logan Gossard is 16th at 4.95 meters. Freshman Ashton Grossman also cracked the top 40 with his mark of 4.70 meters last week currently ranked No. 40 in the country.
 
Logan Anderson is the highest ranked SRU athlete currently with his heptathlon score of 5,107 points ranked No. 4 nationally. Anderson will compete in multiple events this week. Teammate Jacob Stucchio also owns a top 25 mark nationally in the heptathlon with a score of 4,629 points ranking 24th.
 
Matthew Crow leads the way on the track with his 60-meter hurdle time of 8.13 seconds currently ranked No. 27 nationally.
 
Zach Gose moved up 10 spots in the weight throw with his mark of 18.07 meters last week moving him up to No. 38 nationally. The Rock's final top 50 mark belongs to Jason Alderson, who climbed to No. 48 in the triple jump with a leap of 14.24 meters last week at YSU.

SRU WOMEN'S NOTES
The Rock will send 43 women to compete Saturday at Ashland.
 
SRU is coming off a solid outing last week at Youngstown State in the first meet back from the semester break. Allie Taylor was named the PSAC Female Field Athlete of the Week for her performance in the pole vault, where she took second overall with an NCAA provisional mark of 3.73 meters, the top mark in the region this year. The Rock women also picked up a pair of event wins last week with Jianna Long winning the 400-meter dash and Olivia Heckman leading a 1-2-3 sweep for SRU in the shot put.
 
Slippery Rock enters this week with eight top 50 marks nationally, headlined by Taylor with her pole vault mark from last week ranking No. 21.
 
Jumper Baylee Blauser owns top 50 marks in both horizontal jumps, entering this week ranked No. 34 nationally in the long jump (5.74m) and No. 34 nationally in the triple jump (11.56m). Alice Bogia joins her with a top 40 mark in the triple jump with a mark of 11.50 meters currently ranked No. 40.
 
Jianna Long leads the way on the track with her 400-meter time of 57.29 seconds currently ranked No. 38 nationally.
 
Delaney Sturgeon is 40th nationally in the high jump at 1.65 meters and Olivia Heckman is 43rd in the shot put with a toss of 13.33 meters.
 
The final top 50 mark belong to multi-event athlete Leighanne Swan, who is 38th in Division II in the pentathlon with 3,228 points.

Slippery Rock is scheduled to split the squad next week and send athletes to both Youngstown State and Mount Union. The YSU Mid-Major Invitational is a two-day meet that begins Friday and concludes Saturday, while the Mount Union Jim Wuske Invitational is set for Saturday.
