Rock competing at two meets this weekend

Slippery Rock will send track & field athletes to Allegheny College Friday and Ashland University Friday and Saturday for a pair of meets this weekend for a final tune-up before the PSAC Championships.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University track & field program will have athletes competing at two different meets Friday and Saturday this week as a final chance to qualify or tune up for the Conference Championships next week.
 
The Rock will send 30 total athletes to Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania Friday for the Marty Goldberg Gator Invite and the majority of the team to Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio Friday and Saturday for the two-day Ashland Alumni Open.

FINAL CHANCE TO QUALIFY
This week marks the final chance for SRU athletes to either hit an automatic qualifying mark or to improve on their current seeding for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships, which will take place next Thursday through Saturday at Shippensburg University. A full list of the current PSAC qualifiers is available HERE.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock is coming off a strong performance at home last Thursday at the John Papa Invitational, where the men and women combined for 57 PSAC qualifying marks, four NCAA provisional marks and 18 event wins. Highlights of the meet included Tayla Kurzawa winning the high jump and triple jump with a career-best efforts on the women's side and Jason Alderson winning the triple jump and long jump on the men's side.

MEN'S BREAKDOWN FOR ALLEGHENY FRIDAY
Slippery Rock will only send nine men to Allegheny Friday with Dustin Joyce jumping in the horizontal jumps and the other eight entries all being mid-distance runners, including Dylan Barca (800m), Lincoln Bouman (1,500m), Michael Gauntner (800m, 1,500m), Brandon Henry (steeplechase), Brady Hoffman (800m), John Juszynski (800m, 1,500m), Nate Pitzer (800m) and Anthony Robare (steeplechase).
 
The only athletes entered at Allegheny that have already locked up a guaranteed PSAC qualifying spot are Juszynski and Gauntner, who are locked into the PSAC Championships in the steeplechase.
 
WOMEN'S BREAKDOWN FOR ALLEGHENY FRIDAY
The Rock women will send a much larger contingent to Allegheny than the men with 21 total women scheduled to compete. The group includes the multi-event athletes, distance runners and a handful of jumpers and throwers. Six of the 21 women headed to Allegheny have already guaranteed themselves a spot at the PSAC Championships, including Leighanne Swan (heptathlon, 100m HH), Maddy Miller (heptathlon, 100m HH), Jennifer Cichra (1,500m), Delaney Sturgeon (HJ), Sophia Yard (HJ) and Haley Domagala (SP). MEN'S BREAKDOWN FOR ASHLAND
Slippery Rock will send 44 men to compete at Ashland Friday and Saturday, including most of the SRU athletes that already have PSAC marks and many that have been close all season. The group of athletes heading to Ashland could also include some of the mid-distance runners that will compete Friday at Allegheny, as they could race in both meets.
 
The Rock men will be led at Ashland by the throwers with Zach Gose (hammer), Seaton Wozniak (shot put and discus), Connor Brown (shot put) and Joey Reed (javelin) all currently owning NCAA provisional marks. The men will also be led in the field by vaulters Logan Gossard and Bradon Schneider and jumpers Jason Alderson and Matt Mallon. On the track, hurdlers Matthew Crow and Austin Kurta will be joined by sprinters Nicholas Hartwick, Michael Milot, Kyle Rauchut, Kadin Johnson and Josiah Vidzro in leading the squad.
