BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's track & field team won its third straight and ninth overall indoor title at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Indoor Championships that wrapped up Sunday from Lehigh University.
Â
The Rock wrapped up the three-peat and moved into a tie with Shippensburg for the most indoor titles in PSAC history with their ninth indoor crown after scoring a total 98.5 points. East Stroudsburg rallied from fourth place after the first day to take second with 88 points, falling 10.5 points shy of SRU. Bloomsburg used its strength in the distance races to soar up to third with 85 points. California took fourth with 73 points and Shippensburg was fifth with 71.5 points as just 27 points separated the top five teams. A total of 13 teams scored points at the meet.
Â
"I couldn't be prouder of our athletes and coaches," said head coach
Bill Jordan. "We knew this was going to be really close among the top five teams and we had some women step up in really big moments today and really fight for this win. It was a total team effort and watching the way our men and women supported each other in the closing moments of the meet when it got tight was really special. This is an incredible program and days like today remind you of how special it is to be part of The Rock."
Â
Slippery Rock also took home one of the major awards after the competition with
Jennifer Cichra being named the Champion Scholar Award winner. She and Jonathan Wess swept the academic awards for SRU for owning the highest GPAs of all athletes competing this weekend. Both Cichra and Wess own a perfect 4.0 GPA.
SRU used a balanced approach Sunday to rack up 42.5 points without any event victories on the final day of action. The Rock got just one title from the 17 events when
Allie Taylor won the pole vault Saturday on the opening day.
Â
Slippery Rock's best event Sunday was the shot put, where the trio of
Becca Martin,
Olivia Heckman and
Haley Domagala combined to score 17 total points. Martin and Heckman both earned All-PSAC honors for top three finishes with Martin placing second with a season-best throw of 13.60 meters and Heckman finishing third with a toss of 13.47 meters. Domagala was sixth with a throw of 12.81 meters to close her weekend scoring in both the shot put and the weight throw.
Â
The Rock picked up 13 points in the triple jump in what proved to be the decisive event in the team race. It was the second to last event to finish with only the 4x400-meter relay yet to come and the points scored in the triple jump would solidify SRU's place heading into the relay.
Alice Bogia earned All-PSAC honors with a second place finish after recording the two best jumps of her career, including an NCAA provisional leap of 11.94 meters. The second place finish marked the highest of her career at a PSAC meet.
Baylee Blauser, who was runner-up in the long jump Saturday, took fourth with a leap of 11.67 meters to give SRU 13 total points in the event and send The Rock to the relay with an 8.5 point lead on ESU.
Â
The relay team of
Ava Reagle,
Shannon McCullough,
Annasophia Stauffer and
Lydia Reed then closed out the win with a fifth place finish in 4:00.57.
Â
Reed also scored in the 200-meter dash final with a seventh place finish in 26.21 seconds. SRU picked up points in four other individual races on the track.
Grace Lennon was seventh in the 60-meter dash in 7.94 seconds,
Ondrea Young was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.99 seconds,
Ruthie Hughes was seventh in the mile in 5:13.38 and
Carissa Flynn was seventh in the 3,000-meter run in 10:23.99. Hughes and Flynn both scored in two different events after also scoring in the 5,000-meter run Saturday.
Â
The Rock also picked up 3.5 points in the high jump with freshman
Delaney Sturgeon placing fifth in her PSAC debut with a clearance of 1.64 meters.

Slippery Rock will now shift focus to the outdoor season, which is set to begin March 21 at California (Pa.). Seven SRU women have NCAA provisional marks and will declare for the indoor national meet, but all seven are currently below the traditional cutoff in their respective events. Bogia is the highest ranked SRU athlete at No. 34 in the triple jump. Â
