BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's track & field team sits in second place at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Indoor Championships after the first of two days of competition wrapped up Saturday from Rauch Fieldhouse at Lehigh University.

The Rock scored 38.5 points in the five event finals that were contested Friday to sit in second placing in the team standings, trailing 14-time defending champion Shippensburg's 53.5 points. Kutztown sits third with 25 points, followed by Lock Haven in fourth with 21 and West Chester in fifth with 16.5 points. East Stroudsburg is sixth with 12 points, but is poised for a big jump Sunday.

Slippery Rock got All-PSAC finishes from three athletes Saturday, headlined by an SRU record setting performance from
Zach Gose in the weight throw. Gose took third in the competition with a career-best effort and NCAA provisional mark of 19.68 meters, breaking the former SRU record of 19.38 meters that was set by Joshua VanDeMark in 2023.
Ryan Oleksy also took fifth in the event with a throw of 17.56 meters to give SRU 10 points in the weight throw.

The Rock put four vaulters in the top five positions in the pole vault on the way to scoring 22.5 points in the event.
Drew Layton, who has been injured and has not competed in more than a month, took second with a clearance of 4.98 meters.
Logan Gossard joined him in earning All-PSAC honors after Gossard matched Layton with a new career-best at 4.98 meters.
Bradon Schneider also met the NCAA provisional to take fourth with a clearance of 4.83 meters and
Christian Crowley tied for fifth with a mark of 4.68 meters.

Slippery Rock grabbed three points from the distance medley relay team of
Lincoln Bouman (1,200m),
Micah Good (400m),
Micah Ivy (800m) and
Michael Gauntner (1,600m) after that unit placed sixth in 10:37.54.

The Rock scored two points in the long jump with
Jason Alderson recording a career-best leap of 7.15 meters to place seventh. The final point of the opening day came from
Eli Schreiber, who finished eighth in the 5,000-meter run in 15:27.28.

Only five event finals were contested Saturday. The other events that took place on the first day were qualifying prelims in the sprints and the first four events of the seven-event heptathlon.

The Rock got a strong start to the multi with
Logan Anderson jumping out to a first day lead with 3,003 points with three events to go Sunday.
Jacob Stucchio sits fourth with 2,650 points and
Ethan Folmer is sixth with 2,547 points.

SRU also got a strong showing from its hurdlers with all three entries qualifying for Sunday's final. Defending champion
Matthew Crow led the way with the second best prelim time with a season-best time of 8.09 seconds, just off his SRU record of 8.07 seconds.
Austin Kurta put up the sixth best time at 8.36 seconds and
Jonathan Wess recorded a career-best in 8.38 seconds to nab the last qualifying spot in the final.
