SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –
Zach Gose broke the program record in the hammer throw to lead the Slippery Rock University men's track & field team to four NCAA provisional marks, 32 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks and two event wins at the Dave Labor Invitational hosted by SRU Friday and Saturday at the William Lennox Track.
The Rock hosted more than 1,000 athletes from 26 different colleges representing all three NCAA Divisions for the two-day Dave Labor Invitational that kicked off Friday afternoon and wrapped up Saturday.
Gose scored the highlight of a strong meet for SRU when he broke the program record in the hammer throw on the opening day. He won the event with a throw of 61.64 meters, topping the former record of 61.59 meters that was set by David Reinhardt in 2017. He led a foursome of SRU men to at least the PSAC standard in the event with
Ryan Oleksy placing fourth at 53.80 meters,
Evan Hall finishing 13th at 48.70 meters and
Logan Parker finishing 14th at 48.08 meters.
Seaton Wozniak recorded two NCAA marks on the weekend with runner-up finishes in both the discus throw and the shot put. He finished with a career-best effort of 52.11 meters in the discus to lead a trio of SRU athletes to top 10 marks. Oleksy was fifth at 49.61 meters and Gose was 10th at 45.72 meters.
Wozniak also took second in the shot put with a throw of 17.28 meters.
Connor Brown was fourth at 16.39 meters, followed by Parker in eighth at 15.72 meters and
Jacob Gose in 12th at 14.98 meters.
Joey Reed gave The Rock their second win of the meet and ensured SRU hit an NCAA mark in all four throwing disciplines when he won the javelin with a mark of 61.38 meters.
Ryan Beam was second at 58.75 meters, followed by
Landon Lynch in fourth at 56.45 meters and
Ian McCreary in fifth at 56.37 meters. In total, The Rock's throwers hit four NCAA marks and 15 PSAC marks at the meet.
SRU also got a stellar showing in the long jump, where six different athletes hit the PSAC standards and five men finished with marks of 7.00 meters or better.
Logan Anderson led the way with a fourth place finish and a leap of 7.26 meters.
Matt Mallon was fifth at 7.07 meters, followed by
Matthew Crow in sixth (7.03m),
Jason Alderson in seventh (7.02m),
Kai Lynch in eighth (7.00m) and
Jacob Stucchio in ninth (6.97m).
The Rock picked up four PSAC marks in the vertical jumps with
Logan Turton placing third in the high jump at 2.00 meters and
Logan Gossard placing third in the pole vault at 4.63 meters.
Christian Crowley was fifth in the vault with the same height at 4.63 meters and
Scott Finch was sixth at 4.48 meters.
Crow and Anderson both hit the PSAC standard in the 110-meter hurdles with Crow finishing ninth in 14.65 seconds and Anderson placing 10th in 15.01 seconds.
Jonathan Wess joined them in 13th at 15.14 seconds.
The highest finishing individual on the track was
Austin Kurta, who took second in the 400-meter hurdles in 54.81 seconds.
Kadin Johnson also hit the PSAC mark in eighth place in 56.69 seconds.
Jacob Thompson led the short sprinters with a PSAC effort in the 200-meter dash with a 16th place finish in 21.90 seconds, while
Josiah Vidzro took sixth in the 400-meter dash in 49.37 seconds. Thompson closed out the meet by teaming with Johnson,
Darien Malawi and
Trey Huha to place third in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:23.75.
