Rock men hit four NCAA marks at Ashland

The Rock men hit four NCAA provisional marks and 17 PSAC qualifying marks at the Ashland Last Chance Meet Saturday.

ASHLAND, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University men's track & field team recorded four NCAA provisional marks, 17 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks and one event win at the Ashland Last Chance Meet Saturday at Ashland University.
 
All four of the NCAA marks came in the field with three coming in the throws and one in the pole vault.
 
Zach Gose headlined the day with a new career-best in the weight throw with a toss of 19.21 meters to place fifth in the elite section of the event. It marked the first time in his carer that he has topped the 19.00-meter mark. Gose also hit the PSAC standard in the shot put to take second in the unseeded section with a throw of 15.29 meters. He was joined in reaching the PSAC standard in the weight throw by Ryan Oleksy, who took fourth in the unseeded section with a throw of 16.68 meters.
 
Seaton Wozniak was the lone event winner for SRU at Ashland as he led a dominant showing by the shot put throwers by winning the elite section with a throw of 17.74 meters. SRU swept the top four spots in the elite section with Connor Brown taking second with an NCAA provisional throw of his own at 17.11 meters. Logan Parker was third at 16.29 meters and Tyler Ondrusek was fourth at 16.04 meters.
 
SRU also had three men hit the PSAC standard in the unseeded section of the shot put. Jacob Gose took fifth with a throw of 14.96 meters behind his brother Zach in second at 15.29 meters and Evan Hall was sixth with a throw of 14.91 meters. In total, SRU had seven men hit the PSAC standard and two reach NCAA marks in the shot put Saturday.
 
The other NCAA provisional in the field came from Logan Gossard in the pole vault, where he cleared 4.90 meters to place second and lead a trio of SRU vaulters to top 10 showings. Christian Crowley was seventh at 4.60 meters and Scott Finch was 10th at 4.45 meters.
 
Jason Alderson rounded out the top efforts in the field with a runner-up showing in the triple jump with a leap of 14.14 meters.
 
The Rock had two men hit season-bests and qualifying marks on the track. Kyle Rauchut lowered his 200-meter dash season-best to 21.97 seconds and Nate Pitzer locked in his spot at the PSAC meet in the 800-meter run with a third place finish in 1:57.39.
 
The final PSAC marks of the day came from the 60-meter hurdles, where Matthew Crow took second in 8.20 seconds and Austin Kurta was sixth in 8.63 seconds.
 
Slippery Rock will now shift focus to the PSAC Championships next Saturday and Sunday at Lehigh University.
