SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's track & field team recorded 28 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks, two NCAA provisional marks and won eight events at the John Papa Invitational hosted by SRU Thursday.
Â
The Rock welcomed athletes from 19 different colleges for the second and final home meet of the season, which kicked off in the morning with the hammer throw and ended just shy of 10 p.m. after the 10,000-meter run.
Â
Slippery Rock was led by a pair of wins in the horizontal jumps by
Jason Alderson, who recorded a career-best leap of 7.25 meters to win the long jump while also picking up the win in the triple jump with a leap of 14.24 meters. His long jump mark is the second best in the PSAC this year, trailing his own teammate
Logan Anderson (7.26m) by just one centimeter.
Â
The Rock got a pair of NCAA marks from throwers
Zach Gose and
Joey Reed Thursday with Gose winning the hammer with a throw of 60.67 meters and Reed winning the javelin with a throw of 60.09 meters. Both of those marks were short of their respective season bests.
Â
SRU won six of the eight field events Thursday. In addition to the wins by Alderson, Gose and Reed, SRU picked up victories in the high jump from
Dylan Langdon and the pole vault from
Logan Gossard.
Â
Slippery Rock also picked up a pair of wins on the track with
Matthew Crow winning the 110-meter hurdles and
