LEWISBURG, Pa. – Kanye Thompson won the 100-meter dash and anchored the winning 4x100-meter relay to lead the Slippery Rock University men's track & field team to 21 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks and two NCAA provisional marks at the Bison Outdoor Classic that wrapped up Sunday evening from Bucknell University.
 
Thomspon won the 100th anniversary edition of the 100-meter dash by tying the fastest time of his career at 10.27 seconds. That mark would have tied the SRU record and would currently rank 10th in the country in Division II, but the wind reading was just above the legal limit for qualifying marks at +4.1 meters per second. In order for times to count for qualifying marks for nationals, the wind reading must be +3.9 m/s or lower. Thompson topped a field of 95 runners, including 10 men that ran 10.70 seconds or faster. That group included Benny Whitaker, who took ninth in 10.68 seconds.
 
Whitaker also ran the lead leg of the 4x100-meter relay, where AJ Virata, Matthew Crow and Thompson combined to win the event in 41.07 seconds. The relay was an early season preview of what the PSAC Championships could look like as PSAC teams swept the top three spots with Shippensburg in second in 41.12 seconds and Kutztown in third in 41.34 seconds. East Stroudsburg was sixth in 41.80 seconds as four PSAC teams finished within eight-tenths of each other.
 
Virata took fourth in the 200-meter dash in 21.41 seconds and Whitaker capped his busy day Sunday with a PSAC mark in the 200m as well, placing 20th in 21.85 seconds.
 
Crow had the lone countable NCAA provisional time on the track when he took third in the 110-meter hurdles in a season-best 14.36 seconds. He was joined by fellow hurdlers Cade Adams and Owen Rindler in reaching PSAC marks on the day as Adams took 24th in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.83 seconds with Rindler placing 25th in 56.14 seconds.
 
The other NCAA mark of the two-day Bucknell meet came in the javelin, where Joseph Reed took fifth with a throw of 59.47 meters. Josh Kingerski was 13th with a mark of 56.52 meters.
 
The Rock's distance runners accounted for the other three PSAC marks on the track. Joey Cintavey took sixth in the 1,500-meter run in 3:56.83. John Juszynski was 15th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:17.81 and Troy Hart was 60th in the invite section of the 5,000-meter run in 14:51.03.
 
SRU got seven other PSAC marks in the throws in addition to the two javelin efforts. Joshua Gose led a trio in the shot put with an eighth place finish and a toss of 16.57 meters. Seaton Wozniak was 10th at 16.21 meters and Logan Parker was 15th at 15.43 meters. Wozniak also took 13th in the discus with a throw of 46.47 meters with Zach Gose taking 18th with a toss of 45.30 meters. Zach Gose was also ninth in the hammer throw with a mark of 57.11 meters with Joshua Rohland placing 32nd in the same event with a throw of 47.76 meters.
 
The final PSAC marks from Bucknell came in the jumps, where Grady Cobb was sixth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.93 meters and Jason Alderson was 10th in the triple jump with a leap of 13.91 meters.
 
Slippery Rock split its team to three different meets this weekend with multi-event athletes competing at Susquehanna (recap here) and a large group of athletes competing at Westminster (recap here).

Slippery Rock will now shift focus to hosting the John Papa Invitational this Thursday. Events are scheduled to begin at noon in The Rock's second of four home meets this spring.
