Rock women hit 17 PSAC marks in opener

Slippery Rock women recorded 17 PSAC qualifying marks and 16 top 10 finishes to open the indoor track & field season at the YSU Icebreaker Friday at Youngstown State University.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University women's track & field team opened the indoor season Friday at the YSU Icebreaker hosted by Youngstown State University with 17 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks and 16 top 10 finishes.
 
Freshman Tayla Kurzawa made a statement in her collegiate debut by recording a trio of PSAC qualifying marks in the high jump, triple jump and long jump.
 
The field event athletes led the way for SRU in the opener with 14 of the 17 PSAC marks recorded Friday coming in the field.
 
Four of those marks came in the triple jump with Alice Bogia leading the way with a seventh place showing with a leap of 11.50 meters. Julia Coffaro was eighth at 11.17 meters, followed by Baylee Blauser in ninth at 11.11 meters and Kurzawa in 10th at 11.02 meters.
 
Bogia, Blauser and Kurzawa all recorded PSAC marks in the long jump as well with Bogia placing sixth with a leap of 5.60 meters, Blauser finishing eighth at 5.48 meters and Kurzwawa finishing 12th at 5.40 meters.
 
Kurzawa closed her day with a PSAC mark in the high jump with a ninth place finish in the seeded section with a clearance of 1.60 meters. She followed fellow freshman Delaney Sturgeon, who took sixth in the event with a mark of 1.65 meters, just missing the NCAA provisional standard of 1.67 meters.
 
Olivia Heckman recorded the highest individual finish for SRU Friday with a runner-up showing in the shot put with a toss of 13.33 meters. Haley Domagala took sixth with a throw of 12.34 meters and Becca Martin was eighth at 12.16 meters to give SRU a trio of PSAC marks in the event.
 
The final PSAC qualifiers in the field came in the seeded section of the pole vault, where Allie Taylor finished 10th with a clearance of 3.55 meters and Kylie Eismann was 13th with a mark of 3.40 meters.
 
Jianna Long led the way on the track with a third place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.29 seconds. She closed her night by teaming with Evabella Cox, Shannon McCullough and Ava Reagle to place sixth in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:01.01.

The final PSAC marks Friday came from a pair of freshmen in the 60-meter hurdles. Kathryn Morrison placed 13th in 9.25 seconds and Ondrea Young was 14th in 9.29 seconds.
 
Slippery Rock will send four multi-event athletes to Susquehanna Saturday to round out to opening weekend of competition.
