KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Marianne Abdalah earned first team All-PSAC honors with a third place finish to lead the Slippery Rock University women's cross country team to a fourth place showing at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships Friday at Kutztown University.

Abdalah and Madison Murtland both earned All-Conference honors for their efforts with Murtland placing 25th.

The Rock's five scorers combined for 162 points to come up just short on a top three finish in a field of 17 complete teams. Edinboro repeated as PSAC champions with 61 points, edging Seton Hill (73 points) by 12 points for the title.  Lock Haven rallied by Slippery Rock late in the race to take third with 124 points. The Rock (162) and Bloomsburg (166) rounded out the top five.

Cal U (194), Gannon (197), Clarion (198), Kutztown (202) and Shippensburg (208) rounded out the top 10.

Abdalah was in the mix for the overall win for most of the 6,000-meter race and pulled shoulder-to-shoulder with two other runners inside the final half mile before fading slightly to take third overall in 22:35.

Her top 15 showing earned her a first team All-PSAC honor and is the highest finish by an SRU female at the conference championships since Jennifer Harpp was second at the 2008 PSAC meet. Her effort is just the 11th time an SRU female has finished in the top three at the conference meet since 1980.

Murtland continued her strong fall season to earn second team All-PSAC honors with a 25th place finish in 24:07 as The Rock's second scorer.

Anna Igims was the third scorer for SRU in 33rd place in 24:25. She missed out on the last All-PSAC spot by just three places and six seconds. Katie Plassio was the fourth scorer in 38th in 24:31 and Chelsea Hunt capped the scoring in 64th place in 25:11.

Slippery Rock's top seven were rounded out by Steph Keelon in 71st in 25:22 and Chloe Kurpakus in 80th in 25:38.

A total of 178 runners completed the course Friday.

The Rock will now turn their attention to the Atlantic Region Championships Nov. 6 at Lock Haven University.
