CLINTON, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's cross country team finished third in the team standings at the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational Saturday morning at the Youthtowne XC Course.
 
The Rock competed Saturday without frontrunner Ruthie Hughes and still managed to place third in the team standings. Edinboro took the win with 54 points. Ashland was second with 86 points with SRU placing third with 92 points. Point Park was fourth with 114 points and West Virginia Wesleyan rounded out the top five with 163 points.
 
A total of 183 runners completed the 5,000-meter course with 19 teams posting a complete score.
 
Jennifer Cichra led The Rock for the second outing a row with a 10th place finish in 17:44. Hannah Burgoon was the next SRU finisher in 19th in 18:07.
 
Carissa Flynn was the third Rock runner across the line in 22nd place in 18:11 and the scorers were rounded out by Sydney Heltzell in 26th in 18:22 and Lydia Valeriano in 36th in 18:31.
 
Lexie Wyant finished 41st in 18:42 and Marabelle Thornberry capped the top seven in 44th place in 18:47. Full results The Rock can be found below.
 
Saturday's race was the final tune-up for SRU before championship season, which kicks off Oct. 25 with the PSAC Championships hosted by Edinboro.
