LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Jennifer Cichra earned All-Region honors to lead the Slippery Rock University women's cross country team to an eighth place finish at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championships Saturday from Lock Haven's West Branch XC Course.
 
Davis & Elkins repeated as the regional champion with a score of 58 points. East Stroudsburg took second with 113 points and Edinboro was third with 127 points to lock up the final team qualifying spot for the National Championships. West Chester (163) and Kutztown (209) rounded out the top five.
 
Fayetteville State finished sixth with 217 points with Shippensburg (226), Slippery Rock (232), West Virginia Wesleyan (252) and Bloomsburg (253) rounding out the top 10. A total of 23 teams and 167 runners completed the 6,000-meter course.
 
Cichra led The Rock with a 13th place finish to earn her second consecutive All-Region honor. She covered the course in 21:54.60 on the way to tallying the highest regional finish of her career.
 
Carissa Flynn was the second scorer in 43rd place in 22:43. Hannah Burgoon followed in 46th in 22:47. Lydia Valeriano was 64th in 23:00 and Gwen Lloyd rounded out the five scorers in 70th in 23:08.
 
Kayla Hanna was the sixth finisher for SRU in 102nd in 23:55.
 
SRU frontrunner Ruthie Hughes, who missed the last month with an injury, had to drop out of the race shortly after the mile mark when she was in sixth place.
 
Saturday's meet marked the conclusion of the cross country season. The Rock's distance runners will now turn their attention to the indoor track & field season, which is scheduled to begin in early December.
