#SRUSeniorDay Celebration: Women's Track and Field

From April 6 to May 1, Slippery Rock will celebrate the seniors on each of its spring teams that did not have the chance to have their traditional Senior Day celebrations. This sixth feature focuses on The Rock women's track and field team and its 16 seniors.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Slippery Rock University athletic department would like to recognize 16 senior women's track and field athletes in the sixth and final #SRUSeniorDay feature this spring that celebrates The Rock's spring senior student-athletes.

ABOUT #SRUSeniorDay
Throughout the month of April and culminating on Friday, May 1, the Slippery Rock athletic communication office recognized The Rock's senior student-athletes online as a way to celebrate the seniors that did not get to have their traditional Senior Day celebrations this spring.

Each weekday between April 6 and May 1, a few seniors were profiled on Twitter (@Rock_Athletics) with graphics, photos and quotes from the student-athlete about their time at SRU.

Once each senior from each respective spring team was profiled on Twitter, pages like this were created for each team that include all of the graphics and complete responses to a number of questions about the student-athletes' experiences at SRU.

Follow along with the hashtag #SRUSeniorDay on our Twitter page or click on any of the other features linked at the bottom of this page to view the rest of the spring sports features.

IN HER OWN WORDS
• One word you would use to describe your experience at Slippery Rock?
AW: Remarkable. Slippery Rock gave me the best four years of my life that I will never forget. Both academically and athletically everyone wants their students to go above and beyond and succceed. I will greatly miss being a student-athlete at Slippery Rock, but I will always cherish the time and opportunities that the university granted me.

• What is/are your favorite Memory/Memories from your time at SRU?
AW: Being on the track team gave me my best memories from college. We were a tightknit family that loved and cherished one another's abilities and I am so blessed that I received the opportunity to compete alongside everyone.

• Most memorable game/event from your SRU career?
AW: The most memorable meet for me was my junior year indoor PSAC meet. I was unranked in both of my events going into the competition and I ended up in third for shot put and eighth for weight throw. I got All-Conference honors and it was a weekend that I will never forget.

• When will you graduate? What will your degree be in?
AW: I will graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in School Wellness Education.

• Will you be attending graduate school? If so, do you know where and what major?
AW: I am going to attend graduate school in the future. I eventually want to become a professor much like the ones in the P.E. department at SRU, so that I can impact college students lives as they did mine.

• Do you plan to use the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA? If not, what comes next for you?
AW: I wish I could use the extra year of eligibility, but I will be starting my full-time job in August teaching health and physical education for grades K-6 in the Conestoga Valley School District.

• Favorite class and/or professor at SRU?
AW: My No. 1 professor from day one has been Randy Nichols. He has always acted as a father figure for me and has always had my back. Anything he did was to better the department and his dedication and passion shows. I want him to know that his hard work does not go unnoticed and that I am not the only student in my major that feels this way. I hope to impact my students one day much like he did.

• What would you say to high school student-athletes thinking about coming to Slippery Rock?
AW: Do it. Slippery Rock gave me a home away from home and pushed me to my mental and physical limits. The coaching staff in every sport is caring and passionate. The student-athletes all have each other's backs and always push each other to go the extra yard. I was lucky enough to become the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee while at SRU and I have gotten to know everyone and anyone that works in the athletic department and they are all amazing people.

• Any message you want to share with your teammates that are coming back next year?
AW: Cherish the time you have and always be 100 percent present. I never would have thought my senior year would end like it did, so cherish the time you have and do not be afraid to push yourself even farther. Go out there next year and bring home two more blue trophies in honor of the seniors who didn't get another chance. Push yourself and your teammates every practice and I am sure you will do things you never thought were possible. I love you all.

• Anything else you want to share with Rock Nation?
AW: I want every athlete at SRU to believe in themselves and have each other's backs. You can accomplish amazing things when you have a strong support system. Thank you all for everything. Everyone at Slippery Rock helped to give me the best four years of my life and I couldn't be more thankful for you all. Also, shout out to the athletic training staff for being the best group of people as well (treat your AT's with respect they work HARD).
