SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University assistant track & field coach
Jordan Geist has been named to the USA Track & Field national team and will compete in the shot put at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland March 22.

A former NCAA Division I national champion at the University of Arizona, Geist will compete for Team USA at the Indoor World Championships for the first time in his career. The honor comes after a he put together a strong indoor season that included winning the World Indoor Tour title and placing second in the USA National Championships.

Geist will enter the World Championships as the No. 3 seed in the shot put thanks to his season-best throw of 22.04 meters, which is currently the third best throw in the world in 2026. He is one of just three men in the world with a throw over 22 meters this year with the other two being Italian Leonardo Fabbri (22.50m) and fellow American Roger Steen (22.07m).

The men's shot put finals at the World Championships are scheduled for March 22 at 6:30 a.m. ET (11:30 a.m. in Poland).

Geist is in his first year as an assistant coach with The Rock track & field team, where he works alongside his parents
Judy Geist and
Jim Geist in coaching the SRU throwers. Both Judy and Jim are in the SRU Hall of Fame after storied careers as members of The Rock track & field program. This winter, Geist helped the SRU men's throwers to break two indoor school records with
Seaton Wozniak setting a new shot put record of 18.40 meters and
Zach Gose setting a new weight throw record of 19.68 meters.

Slippery Rock put five men and three women on the podium in the shot put at the PSAC Championships with Wozniak winning the men's title and
Becca Martin and
Olivia Heckman finishing second and third for the women. SRU's throwers combined to score 50 total points at the PSAC Championships across the men's and women's shot put and weight throw events.

The 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze will be held March 20-22 at Kujawsko Pomorska Arena in Toruń, Poland. The meet will be broadcast live in the United States on NBC and Peacock. A full schedule of events can be found
