SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The No. 8 Slippery Rock University field hockey team plays a pair of critical Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference road games this week as SRU looks to make its climb up the league standings.
Â
THE SCHEDULE
Slippery Rock begins its week when it goes for the season sweep of Frostburg State University 2 p.m. Wednesday followed by a showdown with sixth-ranked Bloomsburg University noon Saturday.
Â
STANDINGS UPDATE
With three weeks remaining in the regular season, the PSAC standings are still tightly bunched with only a few teams separating themselves – for good or bad.
Â
• The top six teams at the conclusion of the regular season qualify for the PSAC Tournament. Slippery Rock is looking to earn its first conference tournament berth since 2017.
Â
• East Stroudsburg and Kutztown open the week tied for first place with matching 4-0 league marks.
Â
• Behind the Warriors and Golden Bears in third and fourth place, respectively, sits Shippensburg (3-1) and IUP (2-1).
Â
• Bloomsburg holds sole possession of fifth place at 2-2, while Frostburg State holds the all-important sixth spot at 1-2: a half game in front of Slippery Rock (1-3), West Chester (1-3) and Mansfield (1-3).
Â
• Millersville rounds out the league standings at 0-4 and still in search of its first PSAC win.
Â
• Somewhat distorting the conference standing picture is a postponed game between Frostburg State and IUP that was originally scheduled to be played Oct. 7, but was postponed to Nov. 3.

ROCK 8th IN ATLANTIC REGION NPI
Slippery Rock was ranked eighth in the Atlantic Region when the NCAA released its first official set of NPI rankings Monday.
Â
The NCAA Power Index (NPI) is the new ranking system that will be used to determine postseason fields in Division II in 2026-27, replacing the ranking committees and former criteria. The NPI ranks all programs in the division and will replace the regional rankings announcements from previous years. The data can be sorted by region to determine the regional rankings. Each sport committee was responsible for determining the criteria and setting the "dials" for their respective sport. More info on NPI is available
HERE.
Â
NPI evaluates a team's season by considering both results and the strength of the teams it plays. Each contest produces a value based on whether the team won, lost or tied and the opponent's NPI.
Â
The top five teams from the Atlantic Region earn berths into the NCAA Tournament. Conference tournament champions from the PSAC and South Atlantic Conference garner auto bids while the NPI determine the three at-large berths.
