No. 7 Rock drops 5-1 decision to No. 1 Kutztown

The seventh-ranked Slippery Rock field hockey team lost to No. 1 Kutztown, 5-1, Saturday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Roz Mikulak scored The Rock’s goal.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The seventh-ranked Slippery Rock University field hockey team lost to No. 1 Kutztown University, 5-1, Saturday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference competition.
 
Saturday's result moves The Rock's record to 8-2 overall and 1-2 in league games, while the top-ranked Golden Bears remain undefeated at 12-0 overall and 3-0 inside the PSAC.
 
Roz Mikulak scored The Rock's lone goal for what was her second of the season on Hilary Hoffman's second assist of 2026.
 
Defensively, goalkeeper Sam Black played 31:41, making nine saves with four goals allowed. Reserve Rylee Catterton finished out the game in place of Black. The freshman made one save and gave up a goal.
 
Five Rock athletes combined for 10 shots on goal Saturday. Hoffman paced the group with three, while the trio of Mikulak, Lucy Hutchinson and Coral Piramo had two apiece. Riley Cloude added an attempt on target as well.
 
For the game, Kutztown held advantages over The Rock in total shots (22-17) and shots on goal (15-10). SRU gained a 7-5 edge in penalty corners. Slippery Rock's total shots and shots on goal total were the most against the Golden Bears in a game this season.
 
KU registered two goals in the first three minutes followed by two more scores in the second quarter to take a 4-0 lead into the halftime break. Kutztown went on to add a third-quarter goal, pushing its lead to 5-0 before Mikulak broke up the shutout with a 53rd-minute goal.
 
Ellie Myers scored two goals and starting goalkeeper Lorelai Lehenky made seven saves in just under 50 minutes of playing time to pace KU.
 
Slippery Rock steps outside the PSAC portion of its schedule for a final time in 2026 when it hosts D'Youville University 4 p.m. Oct. 14 at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
