COMING OFF A PAIR OF WINS
Slippery Rock returns to action this weekend after taking last week off. The Rock opened the season two weeks ago at the Doug Watts Open hosted by Edinboro, where both the SRU men and women came away with wins in the team standings. This week's field will be a little over twice the size of the field at Edinboro with 19 teams scheduled to compete.
Â
ALLEGHENY DEBUTING NEW COURSES
Allegheny will debut its new 6,000-meter and 8,000-meter courses this weekend with the winner of each race officially setting course records. Both races will be run on loop courses that are a mix of wooded trails and open fields at the Robertson Athletic Complex. The women will race two loops for a total of 6,000-meters while the men will race three loops to cover 8,000-meters.
Â
SRU MEN'S PREVIEWÂ |Â Regional Rankings
Slippery Rock will cover 8,000-meters for the first time this year after opening the season with a 6,000-meter effort two weeks ago at Edinboro. The Rock won that meet after putting all five scorers in the top 16 places.
Â
John Juszynski and
Eli Schreiber led the way two weeks ago with
Michael Gauntner,
Colton Adolph and
Dylan Ribelin filling in the next three scoring places. Adolph will sit out this meet, opening space for at least one new scorer in the lineup.
Â
The rest of the top 10 for SRU in the opener included
Michael Novak,
Harrison Repko,
Jonah Lindstrom,
Dom Bumblis and
Lincoln Bouman.
Â
The majority of the SRU roster will compete this week with only Adolph and
Anthony Robare set to sit out.
Slippery Rock enters the weekend ranked No. 8 in the latest Atlantic Region rankings released by the USTFCCCA.Â
Â
SRU WOMEN'S PREVIEWÂ |Â Regional Rankings
The Rock women will also up the distance this week to 6,000-meters for the first time this season after opening the year with a 5,000-meter race at Edinboro two weeks ago.
Â
Ruthie Hughes and
Jennifer Cichra both earned top five finishes at Edinboro to lead the squad, while
Sydney Heltzell earned a top 10 showing to give The Rock three in the top nine places.
Carissa Flynn and
Hannah Burgoon rounded out the five scorers at Edinboro and
Gwen Lloyd finished one spot behind Burgoon to give SRU six runners in the top 15.
Â
The rest of the top 10 in the opener included
Kayla Hanna,
Lydia Valeriano,
Lexie Wyant and
Birtukan Hartman.
Â
All but one of The Rock women on the roster are scheduled to compete this weekend with only
Tatiana Holt sitting out.
SRU enters the weekend ranked No. 2 in the latest Atlantic Region rankings released this week by the USTFCCCA.
Â

Recaps from both races and final results will be posted to
RockAthletics.com Saturday afternoon.
Â
UP NEXT
Slippery Rock will compete on back-to-back weekends for the only time this fall when The Rock travel to Lock Haven for the LHU Invitational next Saturday. That meet will give SRU a chance to preview the course that will host the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships in November.
