LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the ninth time in the last 10 seasons, the Slippery Rock University women's volleyball team was selected as a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award based on the squad's outstanding cumulative GPA during the 2024-25 academic year.

The award, which was initiated in 1992-93, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

Slippery Rock concluded 2024-25 with a team GPA of 3.703, its second highest mark over the last 14 years. The Rock's impressive GPA also ranked second among all volleyball programs in the PSAC.

For a second consecutive year, the SRU volleyball program had 16 student-athletes maintain a GPA of at least 3.25 including

Kaitlyn Danszczak,
Brooke Farrah,
Ava Haynes,
Paityn Krause,
Gwen McCarthy,
Victoria Nalbach,
Kara Pasquale,
Aslyn Pry,
Erica Selfridge,
Ella Sorine,
Lauren VonderHaar,
Arielle Walter and
Jaeden Yost.

Annis, Lachendro-Biery, McCarthy, Pasquale, Pry, Selfridge and Yost all carried perfect 4.00 GPAs. All told, 84.2 percent of Slippery Rock's 2024 roster earned Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete recognition.

The Rock ranks fifth in the Atlantic Region, and 44th in Division II overall out of 276 schools, in all-time AVCA Team Academic Awards with 14.

SRU was one of eight teams from the PSAC to earn the honor from the AVCA this season. Other PSAC teams receiving the team academic award in addition to The Rock were Bloomsburg, Clarion, Gannon, Lock Haven, Millersville, Seton Hill and West Chester.

On the court, Slippery Rock completed its 2024 season with a 12-14 overall record and a 5-9 showing inside the PSAC West. Included in the 14 losses were 10 setbacks against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

SRU's 2025 season is scheduled to commence Sept. 5 with matches against Elizabeth City State University and UVa.-Wise at the Fairmont State Classic.
