ERIE, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost on the road at Gannon University in four sets (18-25, 25-20, 25-12, 25-15) Friday at the Highmark Events Center in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Â
The loss moves The Rock's record to 9-17 overall and 2-11 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division. Gannon, the No. 1 team in the latest Atlantic Region rankings, improved to 21-6 overall and 12-1 in league matches with the win.
Â
Callie Chevalier produced a double-digit kill output for the fourth time in The Rock's last six matches, finishing the evening with 13 on a .170 attack percentage along with seven digs and one ace. Heading into the Saturday' season-finale, Chevalier needs just six kills to become only the second Rock athlete in nine years to reach 300 kills in a season.
Â
Aiding Chevalier on the attack was the trio of
Emry Rumbaugh,
Victoria Nalbach and
Ava Haynes. Rumbaugh posted eight kills via an efficient .273 attack percentage to go with two blocks, while Nalbalch added seven kills on a .500 attack percentage and two blocks with Haynes going for six kills and eight digs.
Â
Jaeden Yost came off the bench to serve a team-best two aces and distribute 18 assists. Fellow setter
Paityn Krause recorded 17 assists and eight digs in the near double-double showing. Yost's two aces moved her past Nikki St. Antoine (1993-96) and into ninth place in Rock history for aces in a career with 141.
Â
Libero
Kara Pasquale rounded out The Rock's top performers Friday with 20 digs and one ace.
Â
The Rock and Golden Knights traded mini runs over the course of the beginning of the first set, with SRU edging its way out to a 17-16 lead before claiming six straight points to extend its advantage to 23-16. A kill by
Marley Annis and block assist from Haynes and Nalbach provided SRU with its two final points of the set for the eventual 25-18 triumph.
Â
However, a road upset was not to be as GU bounced-back from the opening-set loss with consecutive 25-20, 25-12, 25-15 victories for the four-set win.
Â
Gannon closed the match holding advantages over The Rock in kills (57-41), attack percentage (.280-.110), aces (7-5), total blocks (11-3) and digs (76-56). Carlee Weber had 13 kills, 11 digs, five blocks and two aces to lead the Golden Knights.
Â
Slippery Rock will look to end its 2025 season on a high note when it travels to Edinboro 4 p.m. Saturday.
