LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University swept the Field Athlete of the Week awards when the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its weekly indoor track & field awards Monday.
Â
Baylee Blauser was named the Female Field Athlete of the Week and
Logan Gossard was named the Male Field Athlete of the Week in recognition of their performances at last Friday's Haynes Lancaster Open hosted by the University of Lancaster.
Â
A senior from Parker, Pennsylvania, Blauser claimed first place in the long jump and second place in the triple jump in a pair of events that featured almost exclusively Division I fields. Her winning effort in the long jump of 5.74 meters met the NCAA provisional standard and currently ranks No. 1 in the PSAC, while her runner-up mark of 11.55 meters in the triple jump currently ranks No. 2 in the PSAC. Blauser and teammate
Alice Bogia both rank in the top three in league in both horizontal jumps heading into winter break.
Â
Gossard, a sophomore from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, picks up his first weekly award after recording a new career-best in the pole vault. His mark of 4.95 meters met the NCAA standard and moved him up to No. 2 in the PSAC behind only his own teammate and all-time conference record holder
Drew Layton. The mark is also currently ranked No. 9 among all vaulters in Division II.
Â
Slippery Rock has hit the winter break portion of the schedule and will have about a month off from competition between the fall and spring semesters before returning to action Jan. 16 at Youngstown State.
