EDINBORO, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's cross country team won the Fighting Scots Invitational Friday evening at Edinboro's Doug Watts XC Course.

The Rock took the team title despite running without two of their top runners with
Troy Hart and
Devon Navaroli both taking the week off. Â

SRU claimed the team win with a score of 40 points, edging West Liberty by just eight points with the Hilltoppers taking second with 48 points. Lake Erie was third with 78 points, followed by Indiana (Pa.) in fourth with 98 points and Edinboro in fifth with 140 points. Eight teams posted a complete team score and 73 runners competed from nine different schools. Â

John Juszynski led the way with a sixth place showing after covering the 8,000-meter course in 26:05.
Ryan Czechowski gave The Rock two runners in the top 10 after he took seventh in 26:33.

Eli Schreiber was 11th in 26:53, followed by
Michael Gauntner in 12th in 26:58 and
Easton Adamczyk in 14th in 27:11 as that trio of freshmen rounded out the five scorers.

Tucker Davis took 15th in 27:17 to give SRU six runners in the top 15 and
Joey Cintavey rounded out the top seven in 20th place in 27:30.

Friday's meet was the final tune-up for SRU before The Rock will attempt to defend their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title in two weeks when Kutztown University hosts the PSAC Championships Oct. 26.
