MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's track and field team sits in second place by just two points at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships after the second of three days of competition wrapped up Friday evening from Millersville University.
Â
Hosting Millersville leads with 48 points with Slippery Rock trailing in second place with 46 points. Those two teams figured to be locked in a battle all weekend and through two days the projections are holding mostly true with Millersville and SRU in a tight battle for the top spot in the team race. Kutztown and West Chester are tied for third with 27 points, followed by Edinboro rounding out the top five with 24 points. Shippensburg sits in eighth with 15 points, but is expected to make a big move on Saturday with the strength of its sprinters.
Â
Slippery Rock was led on day two of the meet by a pair of All-PSAC performances as
Kendall Grossman took second in the pole vault and
Jena Reinheimer took second in the discus.
Â
The Rock scored 14 points in the pole vault with Grossman leading the way in second place with a season-best clearance of 3.65 meters.

Â
The Rock also picked up two points in the long jump with

Â
Most of the events that took place Friday were preliminary rounds to set up Saturday's finals.
Â
The Rock qualified at least one entry through to the finals in five different events, headlined by the 4x100-meter relay of Gilbert,
Morgan Donatelli,
Thai-Lin Pierce and
Asia Murray that won their heat and posted the second-fastest time in 47.37 seconds.
Â
Donatelli also recorded the fifth-best mark in the 400-meter dash at 58.03 seconds and Pierce posted the eighth-best time in the 100-meter dash prelims at 12.40 seconds.
