Rock set for Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach

Slippery Rock will have 73 track and field student-athletes competing at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach over the next three days.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Slippery Rock University track and field teams will wrap up their spring break trips with the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational Thursday through Saturday at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

MEN'S QUICK PREVIEW
Slippery Rock will send 33 men to compete in 18 individual events and two relays over the course of the next three days.
 
Indoor All-Region honorees AJ Virata (HJ, 200m), Dan Hyatt (PV), Jason Goodman (110m HH, DT), Dalton Anderson (JT, HJ), Taye Lynch (TJ), John Eakin (SP) and Joshua VanDeMark (HT) will all be in action this weekend, as will All-PSAC honoree Bryan Dworek (LJ, 200m).
 
The Rock will also see most of its complement of distance runners compete this weekend after many took last week off. Devon Navaroli and Shannon Dooley are both coming off strong indoor seasons in the mid-distance races.
 
Dalton Anderson, Dylan Close and Josh Kingerski all had solid outings in their outdoor debuts in the javelin last weekend. They enter this weekend ranked eighth, 11th and 16th among all throwers in Division II so far this spring.

WOMEN'S QUICK PREVIEW
The Rock will send 40 women to compete in 17 individual events and three relays over the course of the next three days.
 
Indoor All-Region honorees Jena Reinheimer (HT, DT, SP), Trinity Clark (JT, DT), Marianne Abdalah (10,000m), Cecily Greggs (HJ) and Kendall Grossman (PV), along with All-PSAC honoree Morgan Donatelli (100m, 4x400m) will headline this weekend for SRU.
 
Greggs will make her outdoor debut in the high jump after earning All-America honors at the indoor national championships last weekend. Abdalah, who was All-Region in both the 3,000m and 5,000m indoor, will make her outdoor debut in the 10,000m Thursday evening.
 
Slippery Rock will look to javelin throwers Trinity Clark and Skylar Sherry to lead the way again this weekend after the pair both recorded NCAA marks last week. Clark broke the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge meet record with the No. 1 mark in Division II this spring at 47.44 meters, while Sherry followed with the No. 3 mark in DII this spring at 44.11 meters.
 
The Rock also saw Rachel Veneziano post a top 20 time in the nation last week in the 400-meter hurdles, where her mark of 1:08.50 ranks 18th on the current DII list.
