EDINBORO, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University track and field program swept the individual titles at the Mike Kowal Multi meet hosted by Edinboro University Saturday and Sunday with Asia Broadus winning the women's pentathlon and Dylan Colcombe claiming the men's heptathlon.

Broadus wrapped up the women's pentathlon title Saturday evening with a final score of 2,788 points, narrowly edging teammate Jolene Yon, who placed second with 2,777 points in her first meet at SRU. Hali Olson scored 2,235 points to place fourth as all three SRU entries finished in the top four out of 13 overall finishers.

The Rock women recorded a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks in individual events during the pentathlon as well. Broadus hit the standard in the high jump with a clearance of 1.58 meters and Yon reached the mark in the long jump with a leap of 5.13 meters, both of which were the top performances in those events Saturday.

On the men's side, Colcombe was in third place after the first four events of the heptathlon Saturday, but vaulted up to first place over the final three events Sunday to finish with a score of 4,678 points, narrowly missing the NCAA provisional mark of 4,710 points. Ryan McQuown was the overnight leader in the event, but failed to record a mark in the pole vault Saturday to slip to third place overall with 3,894 points. A total of 14 men started the competition and 10 finished all seven events.

Colcombe used a big effort in the pole vault to make up most of the ground in the competition, topping the field with a PSAC qualifying mark of 4.55 meters to score 775 points Sunday, which was more than 100 points higher than any other athlete scored in the event.

McQuown recorded a pair of PSAC qualifying marks in individual events with a clearance of 1.94 meters in the high jump and a time of 7.18 seconds in the 60-meter dash.

The five athletes competing at Edinboro this weekend joined with 63 others that competed Friday night at Youngstown State to make up The Rock's opening weekend lineup for the 2018-19 season. Slippery Rock recorded a total of 21 PSAC marks and three NCAA provisional marks on the women's side (RECAP) and 12 PSAC marks and one NCAA provisional mark on the men's side (RECAP) Friday night.

SRU will now take time off for the semester break and return to action Jan. 18 at the Youngstown State Invite.
