LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University multi-event specialist
Logan Anderson was named Male Field Athlete of the Week when the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its first indoor track & field weekly awards of the season Monday.
Â
Anderson, a sophomore from Edinboro, Pennsylvania, was one of two SRU athletes to break program records on the opening weekend of the season. He took down an 11-year old record in the heptathlon after winning the event at the Susquehanna Early Season Multi with a career-best score of 5,107 points (score adjusted from 5,083 for track size).
Â
His score currently ranks second among all athletes in Division II after the opening week of the indoor season and broke the former SRU record of 5,021 points that was set by Hans Lubich on his way to an All-America finish at the 2014 national championships.
Â
In addition to leading the PSAC and ranking second nationally in the heptathlon, Anderson also posted the No. 1 high jump mark in the PSAC this week with his clearance of 1.96 meters.
Â
Seaton Wozniak was the second SRU athlete to break a record last weekend when he broke his own SRU record in the shot put with a toss of 17.96 meters.
Â
The Rock men hit five NCAA provisional qualifying marks on the opening weekend of the season with all five men currently ranked in the top 20 nationally. Anderson leads the way at No. 2 in the heptathlon. Wozniak ranks No. 6 in the shot put (17.96m),
Drew Layton is No. 8 in the pole vault (5.05m),
Connor Brown is No. 13 in the shot put (17.03m) and
Matthew Crow is No. 17 in the 60-meter hurdles (8.13).
Â
SRU will send just four total athletes to Akron this Friday evening (Layton,
Logan Gossard, Allie Taylor, Baylee Blauser), while the rest of the team will return to action Jan. 16 at Youngstown State.
