YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University men's track and field team opened the 2018-19 indoor season with 12 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks and one NCAA provisional mark at the Youngstown State University Icebreaker Friday night.

The lone NCAA mark of the night belonged to
JJ Ollio, who was the top Division II finisher and third place overall in the shot put with a throw of 16.96 meters, just shy of his indoor career-best of 16.99 meters. His mark is currently the fifth best in the nation this winter by a Division II thrower.

Ollio was also the top Division II thrower and hit the PSAC standard in the weight throw with a second place overall finish and a throw of 16.99 meters.

Ollio's performances in the throws were two of the five PSAC marks The Rock men hit in the field events Friday night.
Jason Goodman hit the standard with a seventh place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 13.28 meters,
Josiah Davis hit the mark in the high jump with a seventh place finish and a clearance of 1.90 meters and
Jesse Romanchak hit the mark in the long jump with an eighth place finish and a leap of 6.52 meters.

Four of the seven PSAC qualifying marks that came on the track all came in the 60-meter dash.
Collin Darby led the way in 7.12 seconds, followed by
Parker Reed in 7.13 seconds,
Dillon Butz in 7.17 seconds and
Liam Okal in 7.22 seconds.

John Marenkovic had the highest finish for an individual on the track with a fifth place showing in the 3,000-meter run in 8:52.95.

The other two PSAC marks came in the 400-meter dash, where
Caleb Smithco led the way in 12th place in 49.75 seconds and
Jeff Bailey placed 15th in 50.09 seconds.

Baily, Darby, Butz and
Isaac Moodie rounded out the top performances on the day with a sixth place finish in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:24.34.

In addition to the athletes that competed Friday, Slippery Rock will be represented by three men Saturday and Sunday at the Mike Kowal Multi meet hosted by Edinboro University. A complete recap from that competition will be posted Sunday.

Friday night's meet marked the only full team competition of the fall semester for SRU, which will take time off for the semester break and return to action Jan. 18 at the Youngstown State Invite.
