PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's cross country team placed 12
th at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championships Saturday at the Bob O'Connor Golf Course at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh.
The Rock were paced by
John Marenkovic, who narrowly missed an All-Region finish by just one position. He finished in 26th place after covering the 10,000-meter course in 36:21.
Charleston (W.Va.) won the regional title with 62 points. Shippensburg placed second with 76 points and Edinboro earned the third automatic qualifying spot for the National Championships with 82 points. Slippery Rock tallied 267 total points to place 12
th.
Daniel Janyska was the second SRU runner in 34th place at 36:36. He was followed by
Josh Rader in 44th at 37:10.
Andrew Maxwell (39:15) was The Rock's fourth place finisher in the 87th spot and
Trenton Yoder (39:18) capped the SRU scorers in 88th position.
Tim Ferguson was 95th with a time of 39:39 and
Noah Yake was in 105th with a time of 40:41 to round out the SRU performances.
Saturday's meet marked the end of the season for The Rock's runners, which will now turn their focus to the indoor track and field season. Slippery Rock will host the NCAA Division II National Championships Dec. 1 on the same course at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh.
