KENT, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University women's indoor track and field team concluded its time at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala with another strong showing on Saturday as six Rock athletes produced top-10 finishes in their respective events.
Allison Smith led Slippery Rock with a fifth-place showing in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.04. For the day, Smith met the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying standards in the 60-meter hurdles, the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.
Kaela Snyder also had a good day for SRU, finishing in fourth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.85.
Caitlin Hancox finished the 800 meters in seventh place with a time of 2:21.64. Both times easily met the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying standard of 2:27.10.
Also producing top-10 showings on the day were
Stephanie Case,
Danielle Mostachetti and
Abby Michaelian. Case and Mostachetti finished back-to-back in fifth and sixth place in the one-mile run while Michaellian came in sixth place in the 3,000-meter run.
Four Rock throwers eclipsed the PSAC qualifying distance of 10.80 meters.
Kim Stitt and
Ashley Rolick placed 12th and 13th respectively in the shot put competition with tosses of 12.41m and 12.40m.
Jade Hambrick came in 25th place with a throw of 11.48m and
Sandy Kakraba placed 28th thanks to a throw of 11.25m.
Kelly Bruder and
Kylie Vozar were part of a six-way tie for 11th place in high jump with a clearance 1.55m, just above the PSAC standard of 1.54m.
Both
Jayme Stanek and
Amanda Seigworth joined Smith as multi-event PSAC qualifiers on the day. Stanek ran the 400-meter dash in 1:01.29 to place 23rd while also beating the PSAC qualifying time of 8.33 in the 60-meter dash with a run of 8.19. Seigworth placed 25th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.35 and also bested the 60-meter hurdles' PSAC qualifying mark of 9.90 by running a 9.37 race in the preliminaries.
Other PSAC qualifiers included
Tayler McCracken in the 200-meter dash and
Tara Catone in the 60-meter dash.
Slippery Rock will be back in action January 29-30 at the Lake Erie Invite.
