Wade selected as PSAC West Freshman of the Year

Slippery Rock women’s basketball standout Iyanna Wade was selected as the PSAC West Freshman of the Year, the conference office announced Friday, after monster rookie campaign at The Rock.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University women's basketball standout Iyanna Wade was selected as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Freshman of the Year, teh conference office announced Friday, after monster rookie campaign at The Rock.

Wade is the second Slippery Rock player to earn PSAC West Freshman of the Year in three years with Regan Atkins grabbing the award after the 2023-24 season. The Clairton, Pennsylvania native joins a prestigious group of just six other Rock athletes to be named the top rookie in the conference.

Wade finished the 2025-26 season starting all 26 games and playing 937 minutes, the most by a freshman in program histroy. 

In that span, Wade scored a team-high 364 points, which put her fourth all-time for a Slippery Rock freshman. Wade alos found herself in multiple other categories for SRU rookies as she finished second in assists with 109 and fifth in 3-pointers with 25.

Wade averaged 4.2 assists per game, which ended the regular season as the third-highest mark in the PSAC overall, the fourth-most by a rookie in Division II and the 12th most by a freshman in all levels of the NCAA. Wade's single-game high for assists was 11 against Shepherd University, which also marked her one double-double on the season as she added 14 points in a 76-72 victory versus the Rams.

Wade's 14.0 points per game put her 15th in the conference and as the scoring leader among freshmen.

She reached double-digits in the scoring department in 22 of 26 games, with her longest streak of games with 10+ points landing at seven. Wade concluded the year with 89 rebounds (3.4 rpg) and 28 steals (1.1 spg).

Slippery Rock finished the season 7-19 overall with a 5-15 mark in the PSAC. Five of The Rock's 13 (38.5 percent) players on the 2025-26 roster were underclassmen, as SRU will take on the upcoming off-season before kicking off the 2026-27 campaign in November.
