Rock drops game vs. Edinboro

The Slippery Rock women’s basketball team was officially eliminated from PSAC Tournament contention with a 64-47 loss to Edinboro Wednesday night at Morrow Field House.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team was officially eliminated from Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament contention with a 66-47 loss to Edinboro Wednesday night at Morrow Field House.

With the loss, Slippery Rock fell to 7-18 overall and 5-14 in the PSAC, while Edinboro's record improved to 17-11 overall and 14-5 in the PSAC with the victory.

Iyanna Wade and Alyssa Gillin led SRU in scoring with 16 points apiece. Gillin also ended the contest with six rebounds, one assist and one block, while Wade ended with one assist and one steal. Gillin's one block pushed her season total to 42, tying Tracy Whitling for second place on Slippery Rock single-season blocks ledger. Also, Gillin moved into sole possession of fourth place on The Rock's career blocks list with her one rejection against Edinboro.

Kayley Joseph-Bernard put together an all-around performance with seven points, four rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks.

Karianna Woods and Mairan Haggerty rounded out the starting lineup with four points each. The duo combined to finish with six rebounds and four assists.

Slippery Rock started the game by scoring nine of the first 13 points before Edinboro scored the next six points to take a 10-9 lead in the first quarter. The two teams then traded baskets before coming to the end of the opening quarter tied, 14-14.

The Fighting Scots started the second quarter fast with a 7-2 run to take a 21-16 advantage. Slippery Rock cut Edinboro's lead to one point multiple times at the 3:56 and 2:03 marks of the second quarter before taking a 26-25 lead, 41 seconds later. Edinboro scored four of the final six points of the half to take a 29-28 edge into halftime.

Similar to the first quarter, Slippery Rock began the second half quickly, going on a 9-0 run in the first 3:47 of the third quarter. Edinboro then started to chip away at The Rock's lead with 4-0 and 10-5 runs, ending the third quarter, 41-41.

The Fighting Scots scored 21 of the 27 total points in the final frame to pull away from The Rock and close out a 64-47 victory.

Slippery Rock ended the game shooting 34.6 percent (18-of-52) from the field overall, 37.5 percent (6-for-16) from the 3-point line and 55.6 percent (5-of-9) from the charity stripe. 

Edinboro finished the game shooting 51.1 percent (24-of-47) from the floor overall, 20 percent (3-for-15) from beyond the arc and 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the foul line. 

Rachel Manfredo scored a game-high 25 points and completed the double-double with 13 rebounds. Taylor Blunt (16) and Ava Haddad (11) all scored in double-figures for the Fighting Scots. Haddad also finished with five rebounds and three blocks.

Slippery Rock closes out its 2025-26 season 1 p.m. Saturday at California (Pa.). After The Rock's 74-61 win over the Vulcans earlier this season at Morrow Field House, SRU looks to complete season sweep over Cal for the first time since the 1999-00 season.
