SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - In the penultimate week of the regular season, the No. 9 Slippery Rock University field hockey team continues its push towards earning a berth into the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament with a pair of games against fellow nationally ranked teams.

THE SCHEDULE
Slippery Rock opens the week when its hosts No. 6 Indiana University (Pa.) 4 p.m. Wednesday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium before making the cross-state trek to No. 7 West Chester University 1 p.m. Saturday.

LEAVE YOUR PETS AT HOME
Fans are reminded that there are NO PETS allowed at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium, or in any SRU athletics facilities. Please do not bring dogs or any other pets to the game. Unless they are a registered service animal, you will be asked to remove your pet from the facility.

• Fans can watch Wednesday's game on-demand for free on the Rock Athletics Digital Network, created and operated by the SRU athletic communication office.

• Search for Rock Athletics Digital Network in the app stores on Amazon Fire TV, Apple RV, Roku and Android TV devices. The streaming web player linked above will also integrate with Chrome Cast devices to allow viewers to cast the game to those devices.

PSAC STANDINGS CHECK
With two weeks remaining in the regular season, and all but two teams in conference having three games to play on their schedules, the PSAC Tournament picture is slowly starting to come into focus.

• The top six teams at the conclusion of the regular season qualify for the PSAC Tournament. Slippery Rock is looking to earn its first conference tournament berth since 2017.

• Kutztown, East Stroudsburg and Shippensburg enter the week in a tie for first place - and having all but clinched postseason berths – with 5-1 PSAC records.

• IUP (4-1) and Bloomsburg (4-2) also presently sit comfortably inside the playoff bubble in fourth and fifth place.

• Currently fighting for sixth place - and what would be the final conference tournament berth – are four teams in The Rock (2-4), Mansfield (2-4), Frostburg State (1-4) and West Chester (1-5).

• At 0-6 and on the wrong side of every tiebreaker, Millersville is the only team that is eliminated from postseason contention.

PATH TO CLINCHING THIS WEEK
Slippery Rock can clinch its first PSAC Tournament berth since 2017 this week if the following scenario plays out.

Slippery Rock: Defeats IUP and West Chester (SRU's PSAC record = 4-4)
Mansfield: Loses to Bloomsburg and Shippensburg (Mansfield's PSAC record = 2-6)
Frostburg: Loses to Shippensburg and Kutztown (FSU's PSAC record = 1-6)
West Chester: A loss to SRU would mean WCU could not get to four league wins.

If those results come to fruition, then Slippery Rock would enter its regular season finale against Mansfield on Nov. 7 assured of finishing no worse than sixth in the PSAC standings and in possession of all necessary tiebreakers that could come into play to determine the final seed for the conference tournament.

WHAT A TURNAROUND
After going 5-12 last year, Slippery Rock has completely turned its field hockey program around in 2026. ROCK STAYS 8th IN ATLANTIC REGION NPI
For a second consecutive week, Slippery Rock was ranked eighth in the Atlantic Region when the NCAA released its latest batch of NPI rankings Monday.

The NCAA Power Index (NPI) is the new ranking system that will be used to determine postseason fields in Division II in 2026-27, replacing the ranking committees and former criteria. The NPI ranks all programs in the division and will replace the regional rankings announcements from previous years. The data can be sorted by region to determine the regional rankings. Each sport committee was responsible for determining the criteria and setting the "dials" for their respective sport. More info on NPI is available HERE.

NPI evaluates a team's season by considering both results and the strength of the teams it plays. Each contest produces a value based on whether the team won, lost or tied and the opponent's NPI.

The top five teams from the Atlantic Region earn berths into the NCAA Tournament. Conference tournament champions from the PSAC and South Atlantic Conference garner auto bids while the NPI determine the three at-large berths.

ROCK MOVES BACK TO NO. 9 IN NFHCA POLL
Slippery Rock was ranked in the NFHCA Top 10 for a seventh consecutive week after being positioned ninth in the latest poll released Tuesday. SRU slid back one spot from its previous No. 8 ranking, but continued what is still the second longest stretch of consecutive weeks a Rock team has been in the national rankings.

While seven of last week's top 10 teams moved up or down the latest rankings, the collection of 10 teams remained the same as last week. Kutztown stayed atop the national poll followed by Shippensburg, East Stroudsburg, Newberry, Bloomsburg, IUP, West Chester, Saint Anselm, The Rock and Assumption.

A full look at this week's poll can be found HERE.

• Another in an ever-growing list of Rock athletes having career-years, Riley Cloude is up to eight points with two goals and four assists.

• The freshmen quartet of Keila Schutte-Hanekom (7 / 2G-3A), Delaney Evans (6 / 3G), Josie Shultz (5 / 1G-3A) and Tatiana Calderon (2 / 1G) have all tallied points this season also as has veterans Roz Mikulak (6 / 2G-2A), Paige Shannon (2 / 2A) and Haylie Sucharski (1 / 1A).

ROCK SOLID DEFENSE
• Opponents are scoring just 1.64 goals per game against SRU on the year. The Rock's defense has yielded just 9.0 shots per game – only 6.4 are on target per game. A disciplined Rock defense gives up only 3.8 penalty corners a game.

• In 14 starts, Black has recorded a 1.68 goals against average, 54 saves and a .730 save percentage.

• Behind Black is the duo of freshman Rylee Catterton and senior veteran Leah Riegling, both of whom have appeared in four games.

HOFFMAN ZEROING IN ON ASSISTS RECORD
Senior Hilary Hoffman has distributed four assists over The Rock's last five games, vaulting her up the program's career record books.

With a minimum of three games remaining in the year, Hoffman is tied for third in program history with 13 career assists. She is one behind matching Allie Hartman (2007-10) for second place and two from tying The Rock's career assists leader Megan McKay, who had 15 assists between 2013-16.

HUTCHINSON CLOSING IN ON SEASON RECORDS
Lucy Hutchinson's dominant year, which has included goals in four straight games, has set up the senior for a historic finish to 2026.

Entering the IUP game, Hutchinson is on the cusp of setting The Rock's single-season records in points and goals – both of which currently belong to Megan McKay (2015). She is two goals away from breaking McKay's goals mark and five points from taking the top spot on The Rock's single-season points ledger.
