LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University distance runner
Carissa Flynn was named the Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week when the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards Tuesday.
Â
Flynn, a junior from Lenox Township, Pennsylvania, earns her second PSAC Athlete of the Week honor this season for her effort at the CMU Invitational hosted by Carnegie Mellon University last Saturday.
Â
She finished fifth overall and was the third Division II finisher in a field of 240 total runners after covering the rolling 5,000-meter Youthtowne Fields XC Course in 18:00. That effort placed her 39 seconds ahead of the next highest finisher from any of the five PSAC teams in action at the event.
Â
Slippery Rock finished sixth overall in the team standings out of 24 total teams and fourth among the 17 Division II teams at the event.
Â
The Rock will take this week off before returning to action Oct. 24 at the LHU Go Fast River Run hosted by Lock Haven.
