Rock men open season with win at Edinboro meet

The Rock men's cross country team put five scorers in the top 16 places to win the Edinboro Invitational Saturday to open the 2025 season.

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's cross country team opened the 2025 season with a victory at the Doug Watts Invitational Saturday at Penn West University Edinboro.
 
The Rock put all five scorers in the top 16 positions to come away with the team title with 49 points. Indiana (Pa.) was second with 82 points, narrowly edging Edinboro in third with 83 points. East Stroudsburg took fourth with 108 points and Daemen rounded out the top five with 151 points. A total of 11 complete teams and 109 individuals completed the race.
 
John Juszynski led the way for SRU with a sixth place finish after covering the 6,000-meter course in 19:36. Eli Schreiber was close behind in seventh place in 19:47 to give The Rock two runners in the top 10.
 
Michael Gauntner was the third scorer in 13th place in 20:03. Freshman Colton Adolph scored in his collegiate debut as the fourth finisher for SRU in 15th place in 20:13. Dylan Ribelin rounded out the scorers in 16th place in 20:14.
 
Michael Novak was the sixth SRU runner across the line in 24th place in 20:28 with Harrison Repko following him in 25th place in 20:30 to round out the top seven finishers.
 
Saturday's season opener gave Slippery Rock and seven other teams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference a chance to preview the course that will host the PSAC Championships later this fall.
 
The Rock will now take next weekend off before returning to action Sept. 20 at the Allegheny XC Classic in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
