SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's track & field team recorded 33 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks, two NCAA provisional marks, 11 event wins and 54 top 10 finishes at the John Papa Invitational hosted by SRU Thursday.

The two NCAA marks both came in the field, where
Drew Layton won the pole vault and
Zach Gose won the hammer throw. Layton cleared a height of 4.93 meters to lead SRU to six top 10 finishes in the event. Gose unleashed a career-best effort of 59.11 meters to win the hammer throw and lead The Rock to seven top 10 finishes and six PSAC qualifying marks in the event. His throw of 59.11 meters currently ranks No. 16 among all throwers in Division II.

SRU also picked up a win in the javelin throw with
Josh Kingerski taking the top spot with a throw of 57.36 meters. In total, the SRU throwers combined for 15 PSAC qualifying marks and 17 top 10 finishes Thursday.

Slippery Rock also grabbed a win in the triple jump with
Ian James posting a winning leap of 14.03 meters to give SRU wins in four different field events.

The Rock swept both the relay races on the track with convincing wins in the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay.
Benny Whitaker,
AJ Virata,
Matthew Crow and
Kanye Thompson won the 4x100m in 41.06 seconds and Crow,
Trey Huha,
Micah Good and
Kyle Rauchut took the 4x400m in 3:18.59.

Crow and Good also picked up individual wins on the track with Crow placing first in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.70 seconds and Good winning the 400-meter dash in 49.31 seconds.
Owen Rindler capped the wins for the sprinters with a victory in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.81 seconds.

The final two wins of the day came from the distance squad with
Joey Cintavey winning the 1,500-meter run and
Troy Hart picking up a win in the 5,000-meter run. Cintavey posted a time of 3:59.56 to run away with the 1,500m and Hart cruised to a 5K win in 15:37.74.

Thursday's meet marked the second of four home meets for The Rock this spring, which will include the 2025 PSAC Championships May 8-10.

Slippery Rock will split its team to three different meets next week with a small group heading to the Penn Relays Friday, a majority of the team competing Friday and Saturday at Shippensburg and the sprinters heading to Ashland Saturday.
