SERIES HISTORY
The Rock and the Golden Eagles will be playing for the 104th time in the series, a matchup that SRU owns a 57-46 lead in. The two sides split games last year with each home team picking up a win. The Rock claimed a 62-60 victory Jan. 24, 2024 at Morrow Field House before falling on the road, 82-64.

Clarion is looking to sweep Slippery Rock for the first time since 2017. The Golden Eagles posted a 92-72 win at Tippin Gymnasium Jan. 18, their second consecutive win over The Rock. If Clarion comes away from Wednesday's contest with a win it will mark the Golden Eagles' longest winning streak versus SRU since a four-game run that ended in 2014.

Slippery Rock has lost just one game at Morrow Field House to Clarion in its last six outings. The Golden Eagles stole a 75-51 result in 2023, snapping a four-game home winning streak for SRU.

Sophia Hook and Brooklyn Jones led The Rock at Clarion earlier this season with 14 points each. Jones also recorded four assists, while Kayley Joseph-Bernard led SRU with eight rebounds on top of six points, three assists and three blocks. Slippery Rock lost a 12-point halftime lead in that game, as Clarion racked up 61 second-half points.

LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock dropped a marathon heartbreaker against Pitt-Johnstown last weekend, 69-67, in double-overtime. The Rock took a 39-34 lead into the fourth quarter but were jumped by a 6-0 UPJ run with 4:18 remaining. Anye Washington connected on a pair of driving layups to force overtime.

Both sides added six points to their score in the first overtime period, and SRU found itself down by five with 2:26 left in 2OT. Washington went on a 6-0 run entirely by herself to regain the lead with 54 seconds left, but the Mountain Cats clawed back late to scrape away a two-point victory.

Washington led the team with 18 points, six steals, two assists and two rebounds, while Alyssa Gillin tacked on 11 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Mairan Haggerty was SRU's top rebounder with eight boards and seven points.

SRU shot 35.3 percent overall (24-of-68) and 29.2 percent from the 3-point arc (7-of-24). Pitt-Johnstown outrebounded Slippery Rock, 43-39, while The Rock earned a +5 turnover margin (22-17).

LEADING THE ROCK
Behind Regan Atkins (11.4) and Tahmala Thorpe (10.3), Hook leads SRU's active roster with 9.6 points per game. She most recently reached double figures with 13 points against California (Pa.). Joseph-Bernard and Jones are tied for fourth overall on the team with 6.9 points per game each, while Gillin has contributed 6.7 points per game this season.

Joseph-Bernard leads Slippery Rock's high-volume shooters with a 45.2 percent field goal rate, having knocked down 70-of-155 shots. Rebecca Goetz continues to shoot very well from the floor as well at 56.6 percent (30-of-53). Gillin continues to trend toward .400 as well, shooting 39.3 percent on the year (57-of-145).

Jones leads Slippery Rock percentagewise from 3-point range at 37.9 percent (22-of-58). She has shot 50 percent (3-of-6) from the 3-point arc in her last two games combined. Hook leads the team with 1.6 3-pointers per game, cashing in 27.4 percent from distance (32-of-117).

Joseph-Bernard leads The Rock off the glass with 7.2 rebounds per game ahead of Atkins (5.9), Hook (4.1), Gillin (3.6) and Goetz (3.0). Joseph-Bernard and Goetz are tied for first among the team with 1.6 offensive rebounds per game. Joseph-Bernard has recorded an SRU-leading 5.6 defensive boards per game throughout the year.

In addition to her excellence in rebounding, Joseph-Bernard leads The Rock with 3.3 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.

HAPPY SENIOR DAY
The Slippery Rock women's basketball team will be recognizing its senior class prior to tipoff as part of its annual Senior Day festivities. The Rock will celebrate the following four players:

Tahmala Thorpe – A guard from Mississauga, Ontario, Thorpe joined The Rock as a graduate transfer after making 39 appearances at the University of Akron. Through the opening 14 games of the season, Thorpe averaged 10.3 points and 3.1 assists per game, serving as SRU's top scorer in three different games. She reached double figures six times including a season-best 18 points against Cal, a performance that saw a perfect 3-for-3 from the 3-point arc.

Endya Robinson – A forward from Chicago, Robinson appeared in all 25 games in her first year with SRU after a collegiate career that began at Miles College and John A. Logan College. Robinson led The Rock with 5.5 rebounds per game throughout her junior season, a year highlighted by a double-double versus Cal. The PSAC Scholar-Athlete has racked up 170 points and 174 rebounds in her time donning the Green and White.

Brooklyn Jones – A guard from Pittsburgh, Jones came to SRU as a grad transfer from Niagara and Morgan State University. Jones has appeared in all 23 games this season with The Rock, averaging just shy of seven points per game while leading the team with a .379 3-point clip. Jones has been SRU's leading scorer in three different games, including a 19-point performance that included five 3-pointers against Tiffin.

Hallie Raabe – The most experienced member in SRU basketball in this year's senior class is Raabe, a Slippery Rock local who plays at forward. A two-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete, Raabe has appeared in 37 games throughout her time at The Rock, a spirited and enthusiastic supporter of the team each and every season.

In addition to the four players in the Senior Day class, The Rock women's basketball team will be recognizing and thanking team manager Bri Diggs and student assistant Ryan Alexander prior to Wednesday's game.

WHERE THEY STAND
At 4-13 in the conference, The Rock only have one remaining path to qualify for the PSAC Tournament – Slippery Rock must win its final three games, and following a loss to SRU Wednesday, Clarion must also lose to Indiana University (Pa.) Feb. 28.

In this scenario, The Rock and Clarion would be tied for sixth in the PSAC West with conference records of 7-13. Each team would have beaten the other once, but Slippery Rock would hold the tiebreaker over Clarion by having defeated IUP and Edinboro, teams that rank higher in the standings than itself and Clarion.

The top six teams from both the PSAC West and PSAC East will qualify for the PSAC Tournament, which begins March 3.

AN AWARD FOR ANYE
Washington was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete Feb. 17, the first PSAC weekly award earned by The Rock women's basketball team since Deleah Gibson and Isabellah Middleton swept the Athlete of the Week honors Feb. 13, 2023.

Washington led SRU on both ends of the court through an 0-2 week that saw a home loss to No. 23 Gannon University as well as a double-OT decision at Pitt-Johnstown. The guard from Philadelphia combined for eight steals while averaging 11.5 points per game, also adding four rebounds and three assists on the week.

After registering five points and leading the team with two steals against Gannon, Washington matched a career-high 18 points and became the 18th recorded SRU player in school history with at least six steals in a single game at UPJ.

Her six steals mark the most from an SRU player since Jamiyah Johnson logged six against Seton Hill University Feb. 12, 2022, 82 games ago.

A TEAM EFFORT
With 18 points against Pitt-Johnstown, Washington became the 10th different leading scorer in a game for Slippery Rock this season.

SRU Player (# of times they have been SRU's leading scorer in a game)
Regan Atkins (7)
Sophia Hook (5)
Brooklyn Jones (3)
Tahmala Thorpe (3)
Rebecca Goetz (2)
Alyssa Gillin (1)
Mairan Haggerty (1)
Kayley Joseph-Bernard (1)
Endya Robinson (1)
Anye Washington (1)

Additionally, all 10 players that SRU utilized on the court against Pitt-Johnstown scored at least two points. The last time that happened was Feb. 26, 2022, as all seven Slippery Rock players to touch the floor scored in a 67-65 win at Mercyhurst University.

ONE FINAL BOUT AT MORROW
Slippery Rock will be playing its final home game of the season Wednesday, entering with a 4-8 record on the year within the friendly confines of Morrow Field House. A win for Slippery Rock would guarantee five home wins in the same season for the third time in four years. The Rock went 7-6 at home in both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 campaigns.

That said, Slippery Rock is looking for its first home finale win in six years. The Rock have not concluded the season with a home win since March 2, 2019 when SRU clipped Gannon in a 71-67 decision at Morrow Field House. A win Wednesday would end a four-season streak of losing the last home game of the season.

FORCING TURNOVERS
Slippery Rock forced 22 turnovers from Pitt-Johnstown last weekend, a season-high for SRU in takeaways. The Rock's +5 turnover margin is Slippery Rock's best since a 20-15 difference at Salem University Nov. 16.

The last time Slippery Rock forced 22 turnovers in a game was in a 49-32 win over Shippensburg University Dec. 19, 2023, a span of 41 games. SRU benefitted from 23 turnovers committed by the Raiders in that game.

Slippery Rock's defense has now forced at least 20 turnovers in five different games this season. The Rock have amassed at least 10 steals in five different contests. SRU's 13 steals at Pitt-Johnstown are the team's most since grabbing 14 versus Shepherd University Dec. 18, 2023 in a slim 60-58 home loss.

FOUL SHOOTING ON FIRE
Slippery Rock shot 85.7 percent at the free throw line against UPJ (12-of-14), its best showing with at least 10 attempts since going 12-for-12 at Pitt-Johnstown last season. The Rock have now shot 84.0 percent (21-of-25) from the stripe in their last two games and 80.0 percent (32-of-40) in their last three contests.

Seven different players went to the foul line for Slippery Rock against Pitt-Johnstown with Goetz, Haggerty, Pugliese, Robinson and Washington all going 2-for-2.

Pugliese is up to 85.0 percent in her college career at the free throw line (17-of-20). The freshman from Pittsburgh enters Wednesday on a three-game streak of perfect free throw shooting, having made 11 in a row. Reaching 19 consecutive free throws would put her in a tie for the top 10 all-time at Slippery Rock.

The Rock have shot 72.2 percent overall from the foul line, ranking fourth in the PSAC West.

SPLASHING TRIPLES
After making seven 3-pointers are Pitt-Johnstown, Slippery Rock ranks fifth in the PSAC with 6.2 made 3-pointesr per game. Individually, Hook stacks up 12th in the conference with 1.6 triples per game.

Slippery Rock has now made at least seven 3-point field goals in eight different games this year. SRU has made nine treys in three different games, one of which was the away game at Clarion Jan. 18. Hook, Jones and Moye combined for seven threes in that game, as The Rock shot 9-of-23 from the perimeter as a team (39.1 percent).

SUPPORT FROM THE SIDELINES
Slippery Rock totaled 42 bench points against UPJ as opposed to the Mountain Cats' 16 last weekend, marking the fourth straight game in which The Rock have tallied at least 21 bench points. Through the last four contests, Slippery Rock has averaged 33.8 points off the bench and 57.0 total points per game (59.3 percent).

SRU ranks fourth in the PSAC with 21.2 bench points per game, a category that is led by Clarion with 27.0 points off the bench per game. The Golden Eagles also rank 23rd nationally in the statistic. They earned a 38-18 advantage in bench points over Slippery Rock in their 20-point victory earlier this year.

THE ROCK ROTATION
With a starting lineup that featured Gilin, Goetz, Hook, Moye and Pugliese, Slippery Rock used a fourth unique lineup in as many games against Pitt-Johnstown. The Rock have now utilized nine different starting lineups this season.

Gillin jumped back into the starting five, making her 21st start this season. She joins Atkins (21) and Joseph-Bernard (22) in being the only SRU players to have started more than 13 games this year.

ROCK STARS OF RECENT
• Washington's historic six-steal game against UPJ doubled her career-high three steals picked up at Seton Hill earlier this season. The game also saw her tie a season-high two rebounds and match a career-best two assists.

Clarion enters on a three-game losing streak, having won just one of its last eight games – a 63-51 road victory at Pitt-Johnstown. The Golden Eagles most recently fell to No. 23 Gannon, 69-58, despite tying the game at 49-49 with 9:35 left in the fourth quarter.
